Cross Country Newsletter - 9/28/15

Once again Sunny Hills lived up to its name.  Overall the races went well.  Several races we did not have enough athletes competing to rank as a team (Senior boys & Girls), but we did well in the races we were able to field full teams.  It looks like this coming week will continue to be warm, so please make sure you are taking good care of yourself, hydrating and getting plenty of rest.  The upcoming week is a high intensity week, and we continue to prepare for our First league meet, and OC Championships.

Results at Sunny Hills, the Freshman girls ranked 7th , Freshman Boys 5th, Junior Girls 4th, Junior Boys 1st , Sophmore Girls 2nd, Sophmore boys 3rd ,   Overall Girls 3rd, Overall Boys 2nd.

Athlete of the Meet:
Evan Duran ran a 16:17, and 2nd place for our team.  Meagan Oefelein ran 19:22 and 2nd for our team.  Both Evan and Meagan ran excellent races, continuing to improve in their performances.

Next Week:
Central Park in Huntington Beach.  You park at 18100 Goldenwest St, Huntington Beach.  It is a large sports complex, and they charge $1 per car.  The meet is directly across the street from the sports complex.

Estimated return time 1:45

After the meet, we are looking at possibly going to the beach for a short BBQ.  We will need to get grills, food, etc organized.  Let Coach Pacheco know if you are interested!  This would push back the return time to school by approximately 2 hrs.

Other news.  It looks like the Riverside meet is going to happen!  (instead of Mt. Sac/Jaguar)  It will be the same course as the CIF prelims.  They have not yet decided on a racing format (by grade or level), have not decided on a racing time etc.  I will let you know more when I know more….

Newsletter Oct 27th - Nov 1st

Cross Country Newsletter                                                                                            Oct 27th – Nov 1st
While a little dry and dusty, the Kit Carson invitational went well overall.  Times do not compare to other races as the boys race is longer than 3 miles (3.06), and the girls race is shorter than 3 miles (2.76).
Meet Results: Overall the boys Varsity took 3rd, Boys F/S took 1st, Boys JV took 3rd.  Girls Varsity took 2nd, and Girls JV took 3rd (This meet combines f/s and JV into one race).  It was another good training race as we prepare mentally and physically for our next important meet, the second league meet.
Athlete of the meet: Adriana Vanegas ran a good race placing 14th in her race, and Jonah Bonner ran the second fastest time for our team (17:27).

Week Preview:
This is an important meet for our Warriors, as we get positioned for our league finals.  The 2nd league meet is held at Mason Park (by UNI).   Busses leave at 1:15 pm on Thursday.   Parents, there is  $3 parking to get into the park.  Mason Park is a nice flat course, and is a very fast course.  Make sure you are preparing correctly (eating correctly, getting enough sleep etc)!
Race order:
Boys JV 3 pm
Girls JV 3:30 pm
Boys F/S 4 pm
Girls F/S 4:30 pm
Boys Varsity 5 pm
Girls Varsity 5:30 pm
