Cross Country Newsletter 11/5/2012
Congratulations to all at the league finals! As predicted, the races were exciting, the weather was perfect, and the course was great. There were 57 new PR’s, even after the great meet last week which had 61 new PR’s! All week long, we have talked about this meet, and how it will be the last one of the season for most of our athletes. I was proud of how pumped up everyone was at the meet, and how everyone got out there and ran their best.
The boys Varsity team took 2nd in the race, and 2nd in the league. Jackson Marshall was the League Champion with a time of 14:58! Jake Suiste came in 2nd for the league with a new PR time of 15:11, and Ralphy Lara took 10th in the League with a time of 15:49. Christian Choi ran a new PR (16:23), Dariuss Chriss ran a new PR of (16:36), Justin Larius ran a solid 16:38, and Anish Reddy also ran a new PR of (16:53).
JV boys took 2nd in the race, and finished 1st in the league. Great job goes out to Adar Karny for taking 2nd in the JV with a new PR of 16:48.
Frosh/soph boys took 2nd at the meet and finished 2nd in league. This would not have been possible if the boys had not run all 5 runners with only a 14 seconds between them.
On the girls side, Varsity took 1st in the race, and 1st in the league. Maddy Bradford has a new PR to take 2nd as an individual with a time of 17:32. She was followed by Kyle Oefelein in 4th with a new PR of 17:54. Alyssa Gutcher came in 5th overall with a time of 18:00, followed by Olivia Rodriguez in 9th place with a new PR of 18:18. Ana-Paola came in 10th, with a new PR of 18:20, and Emilie Birchler came in 14th with a PR of 18:32. Rounding out the girls team was Hannah O’Conner who was 25th, with a time of 19:04.
JV girls took 2nd in their race, and 2nd in the league. Alexis took first in the JV race with a time of 18:50, followed by Lauren Chen (19:20) and Jackie Foley (19:32).
Frosh/Soph girls took 3rd in their race and 3rd in their league. Our top 5 were Katie Peterson (20:11), Rini Jablonski (20:13), Sophie Huisken (20:22), Rachel Oliver (20:36), and Nicole Ledina (20:39)
Great Job everyone!
Both our Varsity teams are continuing on to CIF Prelims this coming Saturday at Mt. Sac. The course is a hilly course, something our Monday hill workouts, as well as races like Sunny hills and Kit Carson has prepared us well for.
Athlete of the Meet: Jake Suiste ran an new PR time of 15:11 and 2nd in the league. On the girls side, Maddy Bradford and Kyle Oefelein both ran great races to lead the Varsity girls. Maddy ran a 17:32, for a new PR and a 2nd place finish in the league, and Kyle ran an excellent race breaking 18:00 for the first time, finishing 4th in the league!
Week Schedule:
Non Varsity athletes:
1. You need to check in every day. If you are switching to a sport other than Track, please contact that coach and go to the counseling office to get the proper paperwork. If you are continuing on to Track, we will continue to meet by the high jump pit. I am hoping to get you some time in the weight room next week, and allow you some time to rest and recover from your season.
2. Please wash your uniforms and be prepared to return them next week.
Varsity races are on Saturday at 8:14am for the boys and 9:21 for the girls at Mt. Sac. We will need to arrange transport to the meet as there is no bus. Athletes who are not racing are welcome to come, however be aware there is an entrance fee.
Again, great job everyone on the season!
Coach Pacheco
