The Woodbridge Invitational was another great event! Thank
You to all those who worked the many hours to make this event a
possibility! We had a new location, a
new course, and all the challenges that would come with that. We had 11,220 runners compete over the
weekend at our event, in what I believe to be the best invitational there is!
Boys ran a team time of 78:13, and ranked 39th
out of 253 boy’s teams.
Girls ran 95:01, and was ranked 64th out of 244
Girls teams.
Athletes of the Meet: Ralphy Lara was in a 7 way tie for 92 place in the meet
for the boys with a time of 15:09, also setting a new PR for himself.
Emilie Birchler ran 19:09 to run a very solid 4th
place for our varsity girls team.
I would also like to congratulate the 70 athletes that had
new season PR’s at the meet!
Reminder: You need to be taking care of yourselves in
your warm down and daily routines. I
have been seeing a lot of athletes that are not warming down, not taking ice
baths, not stretching etc. By not doing
these things, you are not getting yourself ready for the next workout/race and
thus impacting your training.
This week: The next two weeks will be heavy training
weeks for us, as we work towards OC Championships and our first league
meet. Make sure you continue to take
good care of yourself!
Meet on Saturday:
Sunny Hills Wayne Walker Invitational

Week Review: It was far from the best conditions at the
Laguna Hills meet this weekend. It was a
hot day, on a course with hills, that had to be modified due to
construction. For the beginning
athletes, this was the first time they have ever raced on hills, providing them
a new experience.
Overall: Boys were
ranked 16th out of 68 schools competing, with a team time of
83:36. Girls were ranked 19th
out of 62 schools, with a team time of 103:12
Athlete of the week:
Ryuya Souther
with a time of 16:14 (17:10 last year) was 28th out of all
athletes, and Megan Oefelein with a time of 19:32 (21:10 last year) was 33rd
out of all athletes.
Next Week:
Weather: The first part of the week is supposed to be hot! Make sure you are taking proper care of
yourself, especially in drinking enough water and getting enough rest.
Electronic Drive: Part of our Invitational this year we are
doing an electronic drive for the Marine Corps.
The benefits goes to Patriotic Hearts, a non-profit that goes to
supporting the veterans from our recent wars and helps them adjust back to
civilian life. You can find more
information of this great cause at www.hirepatriots.com
. I request that every athlete put in
some time and effort to bring at least 2 items (old cell phones, cameras,
computer equipment etc). Check with your
neighbors and friends to help support this great cause!
Woodbridge Invitational! We have a lot to do to make sure we are ready
to host the best meet ever! It’s going
to be exciting to be back in Irvine! The
race will have huge crowds cheering on, tons of competition, and a venue like
no other!
On Friday: To make
the Woodbridge Invitational the best experience for everyone, we need all
athletes to help set up the course, take responsibility for their assigned
duties, and support all our fellow athletes!
Busses are scheduled to leave the school at 11:20. When you arrive at
the park, we will take you over the course, and then break athletes up into
groups to finish with the setup. Once we
get close to race time, all athletes need to take their assigned positions and
have a great afternoon watching the D3 and D4 races as you do your assignments!
On Saturday:
Athletes, try to stay out of the sun as much as possible if it ends up
being hot. Make sure you are well rested
from the excitement on Friday, well hydrated, and ready to race! Help your parents to the assigned positions,
show them what to do etc. After you have raced, please go back to your
locations to help your parents! After
the last race, we are cleaning up the course, and removing everything.
Race Schedule:
Novice Boys 3:50
Novice Girls 4:10
Freshman Boys 4:30
Sophmore Boys 4:54
Junior Boys 5:18
Senior Boys 5:42
JV Girls 6:06

We
have been working hard over the summer to build a strong base, and develop our
athletes. Now it is time for us to begin
building on this start and taking advantage of our work to continue through the
season. I was pleased to see so many beginning
athletes having huge PR’s compared to the 4th of July race. Hard work and commitment pays off!
Parents, thank you for coming out and supporting our
athletes!
