Cross Country Newsletter
 Oct 28th – Nov 1st

It was another good week of training and racing as we prepare ourselves for our upcoming league meets and CIF.    The boys course at Jaguar is slightly longer than 3 miles, while the girls course is only 2.7 miles. This makes it challenging to compare with other meets/times.  Mt. Sac course is extremely hilly, and times there are usually significantly different than other racing locations.
For the Jaguar Invitational,  Girls Varsity took 1st, Girls JV 2nd , (they don’t have a F/S on the girls side).  Boys F/S  3rd , Boys JV 10th,  Boys Varsity 14th,  (the top JV boys ran in the Varisty race as the top 7 were running at Mt. Sac).
At Mt. Sac, our Varsity boys ran 82:21 combined team time.  Jackson was the 77th fastest time of the meet (297 schools competing), and the 40th fastest senior.  Caleb Myers was the 11th, and Ryuya was the 14th fastest Freshman!
Athletes of the Meet:
Ryuya Souther ran an excellent time of 16:37 on Mt. Sac course!  Meagan Oefelein ran an excellent time of 18:04 on the 2.7 mile course at Jaguar, placing well to help the team get that 1st place finish!
Weekly Schedule:
1         Second League Meet is Thursday at Mason Park.  Bus leaves at 1:00 and you will be excused from your 5th period class.  Please make sure you contact your 5th period teacher to get assignments for the day ahead of time.

The OC Championships went well on Saturday.  Our teams scored well, and continued to build and prepare for the league finals coming up.  I would like to thank all the parents who came and cooked the BBQ for all the athletes on Saturday, as well as all the parents who brought food and made sure it was a great experience for the athletes.  What an excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Sept 30th – Oct 5th

Sunny Hills felt much different than in prior years, running on the Friday afternoon.  Weather was much better than prior years, and the meet went very smoothly.  Overall it was a very good meet for us, with teams winning plaques for Senior Girls 1st, Junior Girls 3rd, Sophmore Girls 1st,  Freshman Girls 1st,  Junior Boys 2nd, Sophmore Boys 2nd.  Overall the Girls team ranked 1st out of 17 schools, and the Boys ranked 3rd.  Overall a good performance, and another step in the right direction.  This is also the last time we will be running by grade level.

The Boys team (top 5) ran a combined time of 81:24 compared to 83:20 in ’12 (both ’13 and ’12 without Jake), 79:16 in ’11, 81:27 in ’10, 81:30 in ’09, 82:23 in ’08, 84:11 in ’07.  This is almost 2 minutes faster than last year!

The Girls team (top 5) ran a combined time of 96:38 compared to 95:26 in ’12, 92:36 in ’11, 96:20 in ’10, 98:24 in ’09, 104:25 in ’08, and 98:46 in ’07.
Last week and this week are heavy training weeks, as we prepare for our first League meet and OC Championships.  Make sure you come to practice every day ready to give your best.  Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating healthy, and doing all the things should.

Athlete of the Meet:

Caleb Myers who won the Freshman race (16:58) , even after running the wrong directions and having to make up ground.

Jess Lesser (18:31) who came in 1st for our team and 2nd overall at the meet.

Next week:  Yucaipa Invitational

Location:  Yucaipa High School, 33000 Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa CA 92399

Bus will leave at 5:00 am, and we should be back about 2:30pm.
