Woodbridge’s Girls’ Cross Country team finishes FIFH in D 2 at the State Championships and 5th OVERALL in the State of California Cross Country results. Competing in the toughest division in the State, if not the Nation, the girls scored an impressive 116 points but were outscored by Simi Valley’s 113 (ranked # 1 in the State going into the championships), Redondo’s 101, La Costa Canyon’s 88 and Saugus’ 67. The team ran 93:16 to break the school record of 95:43 established by the ’99 State Champion team. This team time was better than the D 1, D 3, D 4 and D 5 State champion teams. As we mentioned before, tough D 2 (we missed being in D 3 by 3 students in our attendance total).
Even though it would have been very fun to have come away with some hardware from the State competition, I think all of us(Coaches, atheltes, family) in cross country feel very proud of what our athletes accomplished. I am pretty sure we would not have achieved the honors we achieved this year if we were not in this tough division. I/we am so proud of the commitment the girls made to work hard and be ready to face and challenge these outstanding cross country squads.
Molly Babcock led the team with a 4th place finish in the race and a time of 17:45 (10th best in the State). Coco Evans (25th -18:39) ran a solid second for us and Alyssa Cerminara-Gutcher (36th – 18:53), Annie Chan (41st-18:59) and Madeline Bradford (43rd – 19:00) rounded out the scoring team. Ana-Paola Laveaga (115 – 20:11) and Alexis Abad (131 – 20:25) were the remaining varsity runners.
